Sending Task to employee crashes their Outlook 2010 session
Thu, 04/26/2012 - 21:24 — danemcneill
I tried two different tests creating new tasks that I both assigned a project to and send as an assigned task.
I send one test from my Outlook 2007 laptop and the other from my 2010 and upon receipt of my tests from each of my different laptops and Outlook versions, the employee's Outlook 2010 client crashed.

Assign Task is Outlook not Organizer
Dane -
Thanks for the note.
If you're using the 'Assign Task' button - that is native Outlook functionality. The Organizer tool uses a 'Delegate' button, which sends an email to the recipient (it does not communicate a task). I'm guessing there is some issue between versions for that funcitionality.
If you would like to ask a person to take responsibility for a task, use the Delegate button on the task in the Organizer Ribbon button group. That will mark your copy of the task 'Waiting on someone else' in the Status field and set the Responsible field to the person you sent the task to. On the receiving employee side, they will simply see an email message that they can act on, or if the prefer, create a task in their Outlook client to track their progress. Their task and your task will not be inherently linked.
Hope that helps.
thx
