Comparison with ClearContext

Anyone used ClearContext and have a recommendation regarding switching to Outlook Organizer?  The features for Organizer look good, but I'm all set up on ClearContext and need to make sure it is worth making the switch.

Comparison

Eric - I was curious too, so I spent a little time this morning reviewing ClearContext's site.

Here's what seem to be the big differences:

Ceptara's different features

  1. Tasks and sub-tasks
  2. Mind mapping capability
  3. A more comprehensive Project Explorer (support more Outlook objects)
  4. Quite a bit cheaper
  5. I think our support is better and you don't need to spend more money to get it

ClearContext different features

  1. Auto-filing for e-mail
  2. Rules Engine for e-mail

Now, of course, I'm probably biased - so if anyone else has some feedback, please feel free to post it.

thx
Chris

Desirable ClearContext Features

I've played with the software for a day and there are two features that would be very handy in Outlook Organizer and are a deal killer for me at the moment.  First it seems odd to me that you've made it easy to do almost anything with an e-mail message except file it to an Outlook folder with one click.  One click filing rather than drag and drop is essential for me.  I see that you can save to a task or journal, but there you do not have the original e-mail to simply reply to when needed.  If I want to keep my inbox clean, need the one click filing.

Second, and more minor, is ClearContext is handy in that when you create a new project, a new outlook folder is created automatically with the same name.  Clearcontext allows you to specify where project folders should be located.

A final concern, is the time it takes in the organizer to "Retrieve Artifacts", seems to take 4, seconds, and I don't have much history yet.   This seems nit picky, but actually seems very slow when I'm trying to organize the tasks.

The task lists could have more fields, particularly the check box to click as completed

Otherwise, there is a lot to like there.  The linking to harddrive and Outlook folders is genius. The use of both project and focus is much better organized.  Saving the attachments directly to the harddrive folder is great too.

Good Feedback

Thank you for taking the time to both evaluate the difference and let folks on the forum know about it.  I think that's great.

I struggled with adding a feature to the right-click context menu to allow the 'filing' of an e-mail message, and do find myself wishing the same thing.  That is, as I'm processing, staying with the right-click context pattern seems quicker than dragging and dropping.  It's not a hard thing to add, so may do that soon.

Regarding adding the ability to 'automatically add' an associated folder upon project creation, that's pretty easy as well.

And the performance bit - agree need to make that faster.  That's a bit harder, so I'm looking at a better way of organizing information in the next major release.

Thanks again for your time - I'm sure folks will appreciate your effort.
